This book has been written as a tool for parents and teachers to introduce children to the Chain of Survival in a non-confrontational way, without alarming them about the possible outcomes from a situation where someone is non-responsive and not breathing. However, we as adults know the potential for the outcome, but the most important thing to understand is that doing something in that situation, is better than doing nothing. And that is why, given that 75% of Sudden Cardiac Arrests happen in the home, for children to know how to do something, will give you or a loved one a greater chance of surviving if it ever happens in YOUR home. Very young children (under the age of 7 or 8) may not be able to push hard enough to give full compressions, but if they are aware of what to do in these situations, they may be able to help guide others (such as a grandparent or older person) who are not as well informed, through an emergency situation and together, save a life.
