Using Music to Teach Children About the Chain of Survival and How to Use it to Save a Life!
ABOUT THE CHAIN OF SURVIVAL
The Chain of Survival consists of three simple steps that anyone can use to try to revive someone who is not responding, and not breathing normally or at all.
If you see someone fall over - check that they are ok. Talk to them in a loud voice to see if they respond. If they do not answer you, try shaking them. If they still do not answer or start to make large movements on their own - for example, try to sit up - then start the Chain of Survival by using the first link in the Chain.
CALL
PUSH
SHOCK
Call for help. Call out for a grown-up, then find a phone and dial 000. If calling from a mobile phone, press 000 and then the green call button.
112
Send for an AED (defibrillator) if there is one nearby.
Check to see if the person is breathing normally, or at all - can you hear them breathing? If they are not breathing - or if they seem to be breathing, but making snoring or gasping sounds, then start CPR - this is the "PUSH" link in the Chain.
Place your hands one on top of the other in the middle of their chest, and push hard and fast to the beat of the song "Keep the Beat Going".
If there is an AED nearby, as soon as it arrives, turn it on, or simply open it up, and listen to the voice prompts and follow the instructions you hear.
It will ask you to place the pads on the patient's bare chest, so you may have to cut their shirt or dress to place the pads in the correct place. The AED or its pads will have pictures showing you where to place the pads.
